Research Summaries Book Press Room: E220 Phone Number: 415-905-1743 Hours: Wednesday-Friday, 7:30am-5:00pm; Saturday, 8:00am-12 noon HOW TO USE THIS BOOK The ENDO 2002 Research Summaries Book has been designed to facilitate media coverage of the 84th Annual Meeting of The Endocrine Society. The highlighted abstracts contained in this book have been identified as those that would be of particular interest to journalists. They were selected from among nearly 2,500 abstracts that will be presented at ENDO 2002. Each abstract in this book is presented in its original scientific form, just as it appears in the Program and Abstracts Book. A news summary of the research, which was prepared in coordination with the research teams, follows each abstract. The summaries include additional background information on the area of research and, in many cases, the source of funding for the research. The original abstracts appear on the left-hand pages and the news summaries on the facing right-hand pages. The abstracts are divided into general topic areas, as denoted in the table of contents. Hot Topics and Clinical Trials Symposia, the first section of this book, features results of up-to-the-minute research and the latest clinical trials. At the end of the book, there are indices of abstracts by abstract number, author, date of presentation, abstract topic area and research funding source. In addition, this book includes a special compilation of abstracts related to the focus of ENDO 2002: “The Impact of the Human Genome on Endocrinology.” These abstracts are marked in the indices with the following symbol: star
